API 6A Gate Valve manufacturer in USA

SVR Global produces gate valves that comply with API 6A requirements and are intended for use on wellhead equipment, choke and kill manifolds, and flow line isolation positions at both offshore and onshore sites in the USA. The valves are all manufactured in accordance with API 6A specifications (21st Edition) and are also referred to ISO 10423.

How an API 6A Gate Valve Operate?

The API 6A gate valve is characterized by an arrangement where flow isolation is made through either a flat or expanding gate moving at right angles to the bore. Rotation of the handwheel or actuation of the stem will lift the gate away from the flow path to achieve full bore position or lower it against the body seats.

  • Slab gate design: a single flat gate wedges between two body seats, providing a compact profile suited to standard wellhead stacking.

  • Expanding gate design: a two piece gate mechanically expands outward against the seats at the fully closed position, reducing seat wear from gate travel and improving sealing at high differential pressure.

  • Metal to metal or resilient seating: seat material is selected based on service temperature, sour gas exposure, and cycle count requirements.

  • Non rising or rising stem configurations: stem type is matched to stack height restrictions and actuation method (handwheel, hydraulic, or pneumatic actuator).

Product Specification Levels (PSL) Supported:

SVR Global manufactures and certifies API 6A gate valves against all four Product Specification Levels defined by the standard:

  1. PSL 1 - baseline testing and documentation for standard onshore service.

  2. PSL 2 - additional material traceability, non destructive testing (NDT), and hydrostatic test documentation.

  3. PSL 3 - extended verification testing, extreme service qualification, and enhanced quality records for high-pressure or sour environments.

  4. PSL 4 - full traceability, extended NDT, and rigorous verification testing for high pressure, high-temperature (HPHT), sour, and subsea applications.

Performance Requirements (PR1 and PR2) are assigned according to cycle testing needs, with PR2 valves qualified through extended open/close cycle testing at rated working pressure.

Standard Design and Testing References:

  • API Specification 6A, 21st Edition - wellhead and Christmas tree equipment design, manufacturing, and marking requirements

  • API 6FA - fire testing qualification for valves in flowline and wellhead service

  • ISO 10423 - international equivalent standard for wellhead and Christmas tree equipment

  • NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 - sulfide stress cracking resistance for sour service material classes

  • API 6A Annex F - design validation testing (DVT) for new or modified valve designs

End Connections and Configuration Options:

  • Flanged end connections (API 6A / API 6BX flange types)

  • Studded or threaded end connections

  • Hub end connections for compact stack arrangements

  • Handwheel operated, gear operated, hydraulic actuator, or pneumatic actuator operation

  • Position indicators and locking devices for master valve and swab valve applications

API 6A Gate Valve Applications:

  • Wellhead master valves and swab valves

  • Choke manifold and kill manifold isolation

  • Frac tree and flowback equipment isolation points

  • Surface production tree flow control on sour and sweet wells

  • Subsea and HPHT wellhead systems requiring PSL 3 or PSL 4 qualification
