Expanding Gate Valve

Browse our high-performance industrial valves engineered for excellence.

Expanding Gate Valve manufacturer in USA

SVR Global offers expanding gate valves designed for shut-off without leakage in two directions in high pressure and abrasive processes. With a wedge expansion design, these valves provide full flow passage, bubble tight seal, and reduced torque operation in both upstream and midstream processes as well as in heavy processes. These valves are made from cast steel, forged steel, duplex steel, and stainless steel grades as per the requirement of each process line.

What is an Expanding Gate Valve?

An expanding gate valve is a through conduit isolation valve that uses a two piece, wedge shaped gate assembly to mechanically expand outward against the seat rings when the valve reaches the fully closed position. This expansion action creates independent, bidirectional sealing on both the upstream and downstream seats, eliminating the line pressure dependency seen in conventional parallel slide or knife gate designs.

Core Working Principle:

  • Gate assembly travels in a retracted position through the valve bore, avoiding seat contact during opening and closing.

  • At full closure, an internal wedge or spring mechanism forces the two gate halves apart.

  • The expanded gate seats firmly against both upstream and downstream seat rings simultaneously.

  • This produces true bidirectional, double-block isolation without relying on differential line pressure.

Design and Construction Features:

  • Full bore, unobstructed bore profile - matches pipeline internal diameter for pigging compatibility and minimal flow restriction

  • Two piece expanding gate/disc assembly - independent upstream and downstream sealing surfaces

  • Metal seated or resilient seated configurations - selectable based on temperature, media, and cycle life requirements

  • Bolted or pressure seal bonnet construction - suited for high pressure class ratings

  • Live loaded stem packing - maintains stem sealing integrity across thermal cycling

  • Fire-safe design compliance - tested to API 607 / API 6FA standards on request

  • Anti-static device - ensures electrical continuity between stem, gate, and body

  • Low friction, low torque operation - gate retraction during travel reduces actuation torque compared to rising-stem gate valves

  • NACE MR0175 / MR0103 compliant trims - available for sour service applications
