What is a Diaphragm Valve?

A diaphragm valve controls flow by moving a flexible diaphragm toward or away from the seating surface inside the valve body. As the operating mechanism moves downward, the diaphragm is pressed onto the seat to restrict or stop flow; when it lifts, the passage opens again.

Because the diaphragm separates the process media from the stem and bonnet area, fewer moving parts come into direct contact with the fluid. This makes the design useful where corrosion, solids, coating buildup or fluid containment are important concerns.
