SVR Global

Plug Valve Manufacturer in USA

An SVR Global plug valve is a quarter-turn rotational motion valve used to stop or start the flow of fluids. It uses a cylindrical or tapered plug with a hole through the center to control the passage of media. Known for its durability and simple design, a plug valve is often preferred over ball valves in applications involving slurries, mud, or high-sediment fluids because they have a larger seating area and no internal cavities where debris can collect.

How does a Plug Valve work?

The operation of a plug valve is similar to a ball valve but utilizes a different internal shape. When the handle or actuator is turned 90 degrees, the plug rotates. When the hole in the plug aligns with the pipe, the valve is open. When rotated back, the solid part of the plug blocks the flow. Because the plug is in constant contact with the valve body or a sleeve, it provides a wiping action that clears away solids as it closes, ensuring a clean and tight seal.

Materials and Construction

To handle high-pressure and abrasive environments, an SVR Global plug valve is built from:

  • Body: Ductile Iron, Carbon Steel (WCB), or Stainless Steel (CF8M).
  • Plug: Stainless Steel, often with a specialized coating like PTFE or Nickel to reduce friction.
  • Sleeves and Linings: PTFE, FEP, or PFA for chemical resistance.
  • Seals: High-performance elastomers to ensure leak-proof operation.

Types of Plug Valve

  • Lubricated Plug Valve: Uses a lubricant (grease) injected under pressure to reduce friction and provide a seal between the plug and the body.
  • Non-Lubricated Plug Valve: Features a sleeve (usually PTFE) within the body that acts as a permanent lubricant.
  • Eccentric Plug Valve: The plug is offset, allowing it to move away from the seat immediately upon opening, which reduces wear.

Industry Applications and Uses

Plug valves are essential in systems handling “heavy” or dirty media:

  • Oil and Gas: Managing crude oil, mud, and upstream production fluids.
  • Wastewater Treatment: Controlling sludge and raw sewage flow.
  • Chemical Processing: Handling corrosive acids and abrasive slurries.
  • Mining: Moving mineral tailings and thick concentrates.

Standards and Technical Specifications

SVR Global plug valve is engineered to comply with global engineering codes:

  • Size Range: DN15 to DN600.
  • Pressure Ratings: Class 150 to 2500 / PN10 to PN420.
  • Standards: Designed according to API 6D, API 599, and ASME B16.34.

Inspection and Quality Testing

Each unit of a plug valve undergoes strict verification:

  • Hydrostatic Shell and Seat Test: Conducted per API 598 to ensure zero leakage.
  • Torque Testing: Checking for smooth operation across the full rotational range.
  • Visual Inspection: Ensuring the internal surfaces and coatings are free of defects.

Why Choose SVR Global Plug Valve?

SVR Global provides plug valves engineered for low maintenance and high reliability. Our designs focus on a cavity-free internal structure, which prevents the accumulation of solids and reduces the risk of corrosion. By using high-grade sleeves and precision-ground plugs, we offer a solution that ensures a long service life even in the most abrasive industrial conditions.
