Slab Gate Valve manufacturer in USA

SVR Global is a manufacturer of slab gate valves engineered for on/off flow control in high pressure pipeline and process applications across the United States. Our slab gate valves are built with a solid, single piece or parallel slab (gate) design that delivers full bore flow, low torque operation, and bi-directional sealing across a wide range of pressure classes and end connections.

What is a Slab Gate Valve?

Slab gate valve is one form of a gate valve characterized by a solid and flat gate which is referred to as a slab gate instead of a wedge-shaped gate used to block the flow. The slab gate valve blocks the flow by moving at right angles to the flow direction and seals on two parallel seating rings offering bidirectional sealing. Due to its design, the slab gate valve is recommended for use in pipelines and other applications that require a full bore valve.

Key Characteristics:

  • Parallel seating surfaces for bi-directional sealing

  • Full bore / through conduit design compatible with pipeline pigs and scrapers

  • Low operating torque compared to wedge gate valves of equivalent size

  • Metal seated or resilient seated trim options

  • Suitable for both rising stem and non rising stem configurations

  • Fire safe design per API 607 / API 6FA on request

Working Principle of a Slab Gate Valve:

  1. Open Position - The slab retracts fully into the valve body, aligning its bore with the pipeline ID to allow unobstructed, full bore flow.

  2. Closing Stroke - Turning the handwheel, gearbox, or actuator drives the stem, moving the slab perpendicular to the flow path between the two parallel seat rings.

  3. Seating/Sealing - In an expanding slab design, the two halves of the gate wedge apart mechanically once fully closed, forcing each face tightly against its respective seat ring to achieve bi-directional, zero cavity shutoff. In a non-expanding design, the solid slab seats directly against both seat rings under line pressure and mechanical load.

  4. Backseating - At full open, the stem backseats against the bonnet, isolating stem packing from line pressure and permitting maintenance without depressurizing the line.

  5. Re-Opening - Reversing stem travel retracts the slab back into the body cavity, restoring full bore flow.
