How a Foot Valve Works?
Foot valve is placed below the bottom of the pump suction pipe, in the liquid source (tank, sump, well, or reservoir).
Operation of the pump creates suction pressure in the pipe.
As a result, the internal poppet, ball, or disc lifts off the seat.
When the seat is opened, the liquid can pass through the valve body and enter the suction pipe to the pump.
There is a strainer installed around the inlet that keeps the debris, sediment, or solid particles away from the pump impeller.
The pump is turned off, and the suction pressure becomes zero.
As a result of the gravity action (or the spring action in some designs), the poppet, ball, or disc is pressed back on the seat.
The seat closes and stops the flow of liquid back to the liquid source.
The suction pipe and pump casing will be filled with liquid.
The next operation of the pump is performed right away without any priming and air entrainment.
