What is a Pneumatic Actuated Valve?
Pneumatically operated valves are valve assemblies that open, close, or regulate flows with the use of compressed air rather than manually or through electrical actuation. The compressed air causes the actuator to move the valve stem via rotary or linear movement.
Unlike Electric actuated valve or manually operated valves, pneumatic actuators rely on compressed air rather than motors or handwheels for operation.
How Pneumatic Actuators Operate ?
The compressed air enters into the actuator cylinder via the solenoid valve or through the air line. The pressure causes a movement of the piston that is placed either on rack and pinion or Scotch yoke systems. It also causes a movement of the diaphragm in Diaphragm actuator, causing rotation or sliding of the valve stem.
